New Pathways for Ostrich Leather18 November 2011
From all the roads that lead to Rome, many fashion highways run further north towards Milan, the world capital of clothing and leather fashion. Milan is considered the hotbed where novel ideas are conceived and given life to by designers possessed by a passion for taste.
To feed this craving for fresh, innovative creations, the South African Ostrich Business Chamber, in collaboration with the Domus Academy, introduced master students in fashion and accessories design to South African ostrich leather.
"Domus Academy is the second design school in Milan to become part of the SAOBC’s drive to introduce the next generation of designers to this precious raw material associated with pure luxury and exclusivity," says Anton Kruger, CEO of the South African Ostrich Business Chamber in Oudtshoorn.

Ostrich Leather Enthuse Italian Creativity15 March 2011
The curriculum of ARS Sutoria School in Milan, Italy, allows young designers to create with ostrich leather.
"Innovation. Creativity. Glamour. Made in Italy. These are keywords describing the approach of a new design project between master students of fashion design and accessories design at the Domus Academy in Milan, Italy, and the South African Ostrich Business Chamber (SAOBC) that was launched on 4 March 2011," said Barbara Trebitsch, Director of the Design Department at Domus Academy.
The Domus Academy is the second design school in Milan to become part of the SAOBC's drive to introduce the next generation of designers to this precious raw material associated with the concept of luxury and exclusivity.
"It is an exciting challenge for our young creative students to create and innovate through the use of a very precious and different material such as ostrich leather. The best projects will be prototyped and exhibited around the world. The overall winner will receive the great reward of a trip to South Africa. The launch of this initiative to our post graduate students has been very successful for all these reasons," said Barbara.
