Three researchers from Stellenbosch, who are involved with research projects relating to ostriches, were
recognised for their outstanding work during the recent congress of the Animal Science Society of South Africa.
The researchers are:
Prof. Schalk Cloete
for his outstanding service and mentoring of the research community. He received
the president’s award. Prof. Cloete is involved with research regarding genetics in ostriches.
Prof. Louw Hoffmann
for the year 2006 in acknowledgement of exceptionally meritious and original research or
extension work in furtherance of Animal Science; especially with regard to Meat Science.
Dr. Helet Lambrechts
for the year 2006 in acknowledgement of an exceptional research project related to Animal
Science . Her work involved a study of the reproduction effeiciency of ostriches in commercial farming.
