 Agri-Expo 200623 October 2006
Cape of Good Hope Agricultural Society, now better known as Agri-Expo, celebrated 175 years of
promoting the image of agriculture in the Western Cape by hosting the From the Earth Expo in
the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) from 13-15 October.
This unique expo did not only bring the country into town – it also took visitors on an amazing
journey, captivated every sense and put into perspective the products that have become
indispensable to everyday life. Visitors were treated to a taste of the unhurried life, while
being introduced to the diversity and excitement of the agricultural sector.
For the first time ever, live animals were showcased in the CTICC in the heart of Cape Town.
Meat and dairy cattle, mutton and wool sheep, pigs, milk and boer goats, alpacas and even baby
crocodile could be seen at arms length. People could experience the value chains within
agriculture: from sheep shearing to spinning and weaving, and ostrich research to ostrich feather,
leather and egg shell products. The SA Ostrich Business Chamber also exhibited products produced
from ostriches.
