 SA ostrich industry participates in Trade Mission to Moscow7 November 2008
The CEO of the SA Ostrich Chamber, (SAOBC) Anton Kruger, will join a South African Trade delegation to Moscow
from 9 to 15 November 2008. This event is a follow-up of the May 2007 trade mission to Moscow where the market
potential for South African ostrich products was investigated.
As a follow-up, Russian business leaders visited the South African ostrich industry in 2007 and confirmed the
need for the ostrich products. It also transpired that ostrich products are not well-known in Russia and thus
the SAOBC will actively create awareness of these unique products, with assistance from the South African Department
of Trade and Industry (DTI) during the event.
The awareness-creation activities will include:

an ostrich meat luncheon for 150 delegates , comprising of three different ostrich meat dishes, prepared by one of
South Africa’s top chefs, Pete Goffe-Wood, who will travel from Cape Town to Moscow to ensure a high quality luncheon.
This is the first time that South African ostrich meat will be served in Russia;
- A highly visible presentation of ostrich leather-and feather products, including showcasing the specially-designed
garments by Deon Oelofse, utilising ostrich leather and feathers. The dresses will be showcased by Russian models
during the formal trade seminar as well as during a high-level cocktail event close to the Kremlin;
- distribution of information leaflets on South African ostrich products - in Russian; and
- A formal presentation on the South African ostrich industry by Anton Kruger.
"The Central –and East European markets show good growth potential for the high-quality South African ostrich products
and thus the SAOBC appreciates and participates in the opportunities created by die DTI", Kruger said.
The photographs show two ostrich leather - and feathers dresses designed by the renowned South African fashion designer,
Deon Oelofse, from Oudtshoorn. These designs were commissioned by the South African Ostrich Business Chamber and will be
showcased in Moscow.
