Yes, Marelize, you may flaunt it!
3 January 2006
A dress so unique to the Little Karoo as can be. This describes the creation of ostrich leather and beaded lace specially
designed for Marelize Fourieís matric dance at Oudtshoorn High School in 2004.
For Marelizeís parents, Louis and Maureen Fourie, this ostrich dress had special meaning as it was made from the ostrich
harvest of Kwessie Boerdery, Calitzdorp, where they farm. The dress was designed by Gabrť Calitz and made by the designer
and the seamstress Elna Calitz of Picketberg. Elna is known for the hundreds of unique creations she has made over the years.
She dresses her clients from top to toe! For example, she also selected a shirt and tie for Marelizeís partner, Conrad-Johann,
at an exclusive menís boutique in Cape Town.
Marelizeís dress not only caused a stir - she was also invited to participate in various fashion shows in Cape Town as well as
in a competition for matric dance dresses in Johannesburg.
